Introduction
This is just the beginning of what I hope will be a Complete Family History of the Vangsness Family. This material has been updated to include all of the descendants of Kristoffer Kristenson 1610 down to those living in America, as we know them now.
This document and web site is the work of many people.
Most of the early work was done by John A. Vangsness and his son John G. Vangsness. They produced the most detailed and complete family tree going back to 1610. We would have gotten nowhere without this important and detailed work.
Also, David Vangsness must be thanked for his many photos of family graves and other family photos. And details about the Carl Vangsness family. I have also added many of the relatives he had found and placed on Find A Grave.
We would also like to deeply thank Wilda Obey of Pine County, MN. She is active in the County Genealogical Society and gave us invaluable information about the Norwegian Bygdeboks for Sognefjord, where our family comes from. She did extensive research into our family using these Bygdeboks and extended to us her extensive expertise in looking for the long lost past.
Shelley K Sylvester and I started looking into our past during August 2011. We started by sharing old family photos. Then we started wondering who these long dead people were, as we did not know their names in all cases. Shelley asked her mother and I talked to mine. And during these conversations, Shelley learned about John G. Vangsness’ Family Tree Document and his detailed letter of 1996. We felt we had found the “mother load”. Shelley and I had many, many 2 hour, 3 hour or more Skype "meetings" where we tried to understand all of the information we were finding. There was just so much to take in that I started a blog called My Family at http://minfamilien.blogspot.com/.
And we have been working and researching ever since. The ongoing blog and this home page is the ever improving, ever expanding Vangsness Family Tree Data that we have. Here I want to share all the data and documents that we have found. I have just finished inputting the second of John G’s family tree databases which had a lot more information on a large group of people.
If you have relevant information or photos to share, please contact me and I will input that information and upload those photos! And I will correct any mistakes that we have made.
