Reuben O. Sjoquist, 76, a resident of Cannon Falls the past 17 years and formerly of the Spring Garden area, died Wednesday, Sept. 4, at the Cannon Falls Community Hospital, where he had been a patient for five weeks.
Born Feb. 16, 1898, in Red Wing, he married Lydia Vangsness in Minneola Lutheran Church on Sept. 24, 1927. The couple farmed in the Spring Garden community until Sept. 1957, when they moved to Cannon Falls. She preceded him in death on May 12, 1974.
Surviving Mr. Sjoquist are one daughter, Mrs. Byron (Phyllis) Fox of Dennison; two sons, Donald of Lakeville and Robert of Goodhue, 11 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, Sept 8, at the Spring Garden Lutheran Church in Leon Township with Rev. Kenneth Kilheffer officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Pall bearers were David Vangsness, Harold Sjoquist, Russell Hultman, Art Trelstad, Clarence Samuelson and Rhodes Vangsness. The organist was Mrs. Carl Magnuson and soloist was Roland Peterson.

Obituary:
Lydia Sjoquist, 70, resident of Cannon Falls, formerly of the Spring Garden area, died Sunday, May 12, in her home. She was born on May 26, 1903 in the Belle Creek area.
She married Reuben Sjoquist on Sept. 24, 1927, in the Minneola Lutheran Church. The couple lived in the Spring Garden area until they moved to Cannon Falls in 1957.
Mrs. Sjoquist is survived by her husband, Reuben; one daughter, Mrs. Byron (Phyllis) Fox of Cannon Falls; two sons, Donald of Lakeville, and Robert of Goodhue; 11 grandchidren; and one great grandchild.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 15, at the Spring Garden Lutheran Church with Rev. Kenneth Kilheffer officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
