Great, Great, Great, Great Grandfather

Our family left Vik before the 1865 census, which usually is most useful for Americans because many of the ancestors left just after 1865. The census online before 1865 is 1801.

In 1801 in Wiig ( = Vik) is the Lee farm, at local parish Arnefjords. Our ancestor Hans Christofferson is there, age 57, first marriage for both, occupation bonde and gaardeboer (bonde roughly translates as citizen, and I think it is indicating that he is the farm owner. At least he isn't a husman, which is a lower class, but almost everyone who isn't the first born son who would inherit the farm eventually falls in to the husman class.)

His wife Synneve Endresdtr is 49 and their children are all ugivt = unmarried.

There is another household at Lee then - Johannes Endresen 55 and Giertrud Endresdtr 50 and household (and without looking right now I think that they are also your ancestors, or at least relatives.)

Once you get into the census online site, you go to Sogn & Fjordane, and then Vik, which is Wiig in 1801, and then you can search by farm name or beginning letter or two of farm name, or by first name or by patronym, using either the entire name of first or middle letters, etc.

Hans Kristoffereson Le (son of the above Kristoffer Hansson Le) was born in 1746 and married in 1772 to Synneva Endresdotter Le from farm #2. They had 7 children: Eric who got the farm, Ola had a place at Valsvik, Brita who married to Ola Inebriktson Dale, they had a place under Ola Sjurson Dale, Endre (our ancestor) had a place at Nistad and Ingeborg was not married in the district.

Our database lists 9 children, one who died before 1 year.
