Funeral services were conducted at the Vang Lutheran church Wednesday, July 17, at 2 p.m. for John A. Underdahl, 73, with the Rev. Stanley Gjervik officiating. Scriver Charlson was the vocalist, singing the numbers, "My God and I" and "I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say." Mrs. Cyrus Midje was the organist. The pallbearers were: Andrew Hoverstad, Obert Remme, Arthur Jacobson, Arnold Maring, Cyrus Midje and Halvor Lillesve.
Burial was in the Vang cemetery. The honorary pallbearers were Milton Jacobson, Ingram Gaasdalen, Roy Hennum, Olaf Jorstad, John Stenhaug and M. A. Flom. John A. Underdahl, son of Peder and Christine Underdahl, was born April 1, 1890, and has always lived in Holden and Warsaw townships. He attended the local school and the Minnesota School of Agriculture. He was a member of the Vang Lutheran Church and was an officier of the board. John A. Underdahl was baptized and confirmed in the Vang Lutheran Church by the late Rev. Anders Hauge.
He was chairman of the 1962 Vang Centennial. He was married to Gilma Kasa June 9, 1915, and the couple lived in Holden and Warsaw townships since their marriage. John A. Underdahl died Sunday, July 14 at the St. Lucas Hospital, where he had been taken following a long illness at Rochester.
He is survived by his widow, five daughters and two sons: Mrs. Alfred (Clarabell) Brandvold, Kenyon; Mrs. Arlie (Agnes) Johnson, rural Dennison; Mrs. Roland (Gladys) Wardell, Southdale; Mrs. Albion (Marian) Rodde, Kenyon; Mrs. Truman (Joyce) Skaro, rural Cannon Falls; Peter Underdahl, Kenyon and Leroy Underdahl, rural Dennison; one sister, Mrs. Herman (Ingeborg) Veek, Red Wing; two brothers, Carl Underdahl, Dennison and Samuel Underdahl; 25 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother.
