From the Faribault Daily News, Oct. 21, 1970:

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at the First Lutheran Church in Kenyon for Carl Hjermstad with the Rev. Richard L. Hansen officiating. Duane Hukreide rendered two vocal selections; "Lord's Prayer" and "Rock of Ages," accompanied by Mrs. Evelyn Danielson the church organist. Samuel Jacobson, Joseph Hoidahl, Glenn Markham, Erwin Hukreide, Virgil Lair and Kenneth Quam served as Casket Bearers. Interment took place at the Kenyon cemetery with graveside services under auspices of Conrad Osthunn Post 141, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Kenyon.

Carl M. Hjermstad passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at the Veterans Hospital in Minneapolis at the age of 73 years. Son of Martin and Hannah Nerison Hjermstad, he was born at New Sweden, on May 24, 1897. He attended the Public Schools at Kenyon. He served in the Armed Forces of The United states of America during World War I as an ambulance driver in France, European Theater. June 23, 1920 he was united in marriage to Edith C. Foss, they have resided in this community since that time.

He is survived by his widow Edith; three sons, Joel and Harris of Kenyon, and Clifford of Burnsville; one daughter Eleanor (Mrs. Donald Traurig) of San Jose, Calif.; four grandsons and three granddaughters, one brother Hans Hjermstad of Chicago, Ill. and two sisters; Gena (Mrs. Baldwin Reppe) of Zumbrota and Margrethe (Mrs. Gilman Satron) of Kenyon, also, several nieces and nephews.
