Notes for Rachel Amelia Sausele
Rachel Amelia Sausele, daughter of Carl and Elizabeth Sausele, was born in Hennepin County, Minn. April 16, 1868. She grew to womanhood in the Maple Grove community near Osseo.

On Feb 13, 1890 she was married to William Bartel of Kasson, Minn. The couple made their home on a farm just south of the Pleasant Corners Evangelical church, where they spent their entire married life together. Mr. Bartel passed away in 1929 and Mrs. Bartel continued to reside on the home farm until 1934, after which she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Rueben Henslin and family.

Mrs. Bartel united with the Maple Grove Evangelical church in her youth and at the time of her marriage transferred her membership to the Pleasant Corners Evangelical church where she remained a faithful and loyal member until her death. She was always interested in the church and its programs and took an active part in the Ladies Aid until her health and age would not permit.

On June 20 she suffered a stroke of paralysis and was taken to St. Lucas hospital in Faribault. On Sunday afternoon she suffered another stroke and Monday forenoon, June 25, 1945, she passed to eternal reward.

Six children were born to this union of which four preceded the mother in death: one son died at birth, Willis, died in 1918; Foster in 1934, and Lila, (Mrs Halbert Loken) in 1944.

Those who remain are Elma (Mrs. Rueben Henslin) of Dodge Center and Evelyn (Mrs. Olaf Naeseth) of Wanamingo; five grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. George Reinking and Miss Anna Sausele of Minneapolis....

Notes for William F. (Spouse 1)
William Bartel was born in Red Wing, Minn. on August 10th, 1862 and peacefully fell asleep in Jesus whom he served in his quiet humble way for many years. He departs this life on Oct. 23rd, 1929, in his home where he had lived for many years.

The subject of this sketch was married Feb. 13th 1890 to Miss Rachel Sausele. This happy union was blessed with 5 children, 3 daughters and 2 sons. The younger son preceded his father about 11 years ago.

Mr. Bartel loved his home and provided well for his family. He also loved his church and, although he could not hear the sermon, because of his defective hearing, he always assumed a very worshipful mood, and while the congregation sang, he read the hymn to himself. He made the best use of the means of grace that he could.

He will be greatly missed by his family, the Church, his neighbors and friends, for they all say, "William Bartel was a good man and a good neighbor." While upon his death bed he sang, "We are on our Journey home, hellelujah [sic]" and "At the cross, at the cross, where I first saw the light."

Those who mourn his departure, are: His sorrowing widow, his children, Mrs. Ruben Henslin, his son Foster. Mrs. Albert Loken, of Wanamingo; Evelyn, at home, and two grandchildren, besides his brothers and sisters. His brothers are Henry, John, Joseph and Ernest of Kasson, George of Sargeant; Milton of Byron; Walter, Aron and his sisters Mrs. Clara Loehrke, Mrs. Lydia Schwarge of Puyallup, Washington, and Mrs. E.G. Birk of Kasson besides many other relatives and friends.
