WANAMINGO -- The funeral for Phillip T. Nerison will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Minneola Lutheran Church in rural Zumbrota, with the Rev. Sarah Nietz officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Nerison, 93, of Wanamingo, died Tuesday (Dec. 25, 2007) at the Zumbrota Nursing Home.

Phillip Thorenius Nerison was born Oct. 2, 1914, in Belle Creek Township, Goodhue County. Reared in Belle Creek Township, he attended District 92 Husevold country school. He was a lifelong farmer in Belle Creek Township, first with his father and brother and later with his wife. On May 29, 1941, he married Helen R. Loken at Lands Lutheran Church in rural Zumbrota. The couple farmed until 2001, when they moved to Wanamingo.

Mr. Nerison was a member of Minneola Lutheran Church, was a past church treasurer, and was a member of the choir and church male quartet. He was also a board member of the Farmer's Co-op and a 4-H leader. He enjoyed storytelling, watching boxing and ski-jumping, and in his younger years was a pitcher for various fast-pitch softball teams in the area.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Jeannette (Dale) Anderson of Vasa and Bonnie (Wayne) Hermann of Wanamingo; three sons, Herb (Pauline) of Spring Garden, and Mark (Brenda) and Leon (Lynette), both of Wanamingo; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helga Nerison of Zumbrota. He was preceded in death by three brothers.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at Mahn Family Funeral Home-Larson Chapel in Zumbrota, and an hour before the service Monday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to Minneola Lutheran Church.

Helen R. Nerison, 90, of Wanamingo died on Saturday morning, August 15, 2009 at the Fairview Red Wing Medical Center. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Minneola Lutheran Church in rural Zumbrota with Reverend Paul Reppe officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is schedule for Tuesday, August 18, 2009 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and on Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Helen Rosella Loken was born on July 2, 1919 in Minneola Township, Goodhue County, MInn., to Alfred and Jonette (nee Lund) Loken. She grew up on the family farm and attended Grover District #66 Country School. Helen graduated from Zumbrota High School in 1936. On May 29, 1941 she married Phillip T. Nerison at Lands Lutheran Church in rural Zumbrota. They farmed in Belle Creek Township until 2001 when they moved into Wanamingo. Helen worked for many, many years at Banitt's Store, which became Lochner's Department Store.

Helen was baptized and confirmed at Lands Lutheran Church and was an active member of Minneola Lutheran Church, serving on the ladies aid and WELCA. She enjoyed attending her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren's activities and following the Minnesota Twins.

Helen is survived by her children, Jeannette (Dale) Anderson of Vasa, Herb (Pauline) Nerison of Spring Garden, Mark (Brenda) Nerison, Leon (Lynette) Nerison and Bonnie (Wayne) Hermann all of Wanamingo; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Helen J. Nerison; one niece and two nephews. Helen was preceded in death by her husband Phillip, her parents, one sister, Alvida Loken and one granddaughter, Sheree Hermann.

Casketbearers are Brad, Todd and Mitchell Anderson, Eric, Jared, Kyle and Jeff Nerison. Memorials are preferred to Minneola Lutheran Church.
