Leverne Donald Vangsness, 84, of Kenyon and Faribault, passed away Dec. 2, 2011.

Leverne was the oldest of three sons born to Clarence and Esther (Foss) Vangsness. Born in rural Kenyon, he lived in Roseglen, ND, until 1936 when the family returned back to Kenyon. He graduated from rural country school in 1941 and Kenyon High School in 1945.

Leverne served in the Navy from March 1945 until September 1946. He graduated agricultural school at the University of Minnesota in 1949 — sixth in his class of 92 students.

He married LaVerne H. Brendemuehl in January 1956. Four sons and one daughter were born to this union. Leverne was president of the Lutheran Student Association, the Wanamingo Township Farm Bureau and the Kenyon PTA. He was an FFA honorary farmer, a 4-H club leader, 4-H softball coach.

He belonged to the Holden Church choir and the Norseman men's chorus, and he taught Sunday School at Holden Church. He was treasurer of the Cannon River Conference, took Bethel Bible study class for two years and taught the class for two years. He was part of the Lutheran men in Mission for three conferences. Leverne enjoyed farming, being with his family, traveling, playing cards and dancing. He married Pat Ellerbusch in July of 2006.

He is survived by his wife Pat Ellerbusch; three sons — Craig (Mary), Arden (Trudy) and Eldon Vangsness, all of Kenyon; one daughter — Marlis (Jon) Stehr of Zumbrota; nine grandchildren — Katie (Mike) Block, Troy, Ian, Robert, Sarah Vangsness, Mat Terwilliger, Grady, Flinton, and Nikki Stehr; and one great grandchild, Ryan Block. He is also survived by his inherited surviving family, Deb (Brian), Darla (Steve), Kurt, Rae Lynn, Maury (Shannon); grandchildren Charith, Seth, Asher, Eric, Samantha, Troy, Christopher, Austin, John, Savannah, Chandler, Sara (John), Jerrad; and great-grandchildren Tyler and Cecelia. He is also survived by a brother Clayton Vangsness of Kenyon, sister in law Beverly Vangsness of Adams, Minn., nephews Steven (June) Vangsness, David (Julie) Vangsness, and niece Karen (Randy) Trom.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, LaVerne, December 2000; Brian in July 1998; and brother, Dwain in 2008.

Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, Kenyon on Friday, Dec. 9, 2011, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and at Holden Lutheran Church on Saturday from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday December 10, 2011, at 1:30 p.m. at Holden Lutheran Church with Rev. Heather Culuris officiating. Interment will be in the Holden Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice.

LaVerne Helen Brendemuehl was born October 16, 1930 in Prescott WI to Adolph and Helen Brendemuehl.

LaVerne is survived by her husband of over 44 years, Leverne of rural Kenyon; four children; Craig and Mary Vangsness, Arden and Trudy Vangsness, Eldon Vangsness, all of rural Kenyon,, Marlis Stehr and her husband Jon, of rural Zumbrota; nine grandchildren, Katherine and Troy Vangsness, Mathew Terwilliger, Ian, Sarah and Robert Vangsness, Grady, Flinton and Nikki Stehr, and one brother Paul Brendemuehl of Sargent MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents and son Brian Vangsness.

Funeral services were held Saturday December 16, 2000 at Holden Lutheran Church, rural Kenyon with the Rev. Michael Lockerby officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Earl Bonde, Doug Emerson, Tony Langenfeld, Al Meyers, Danford Schmidt, Jeff Trost and Davis Foss
