HALBERT LOKEN, WANAMINGO, MN -

Born 16 February 1894 in Goodhue County, MN, the son of Halvor Olson Loken and Amjor Aslaksdatter Strand-Loken.

Halbert Loken's schooling, besides Common School was Zumbrota High School. He was inducted at Red Wing on 26 July 1918, and sent to Camp Woodsworth, Spartanburg, South Carolina. He landed in France on September 12, 1918 with the 5th Pioneer Infantry Company B, and took part in the Argonne fight from September 26, 1918 to November 11, 1918. He was in the front. Then, Co. B of the 54th Pioneer infantry and stationed at Coblenz, Germany; in the army of occupation doing destructive work, namely blowing up and destroying German ammunition of all kinds. He was discharged at Camp Grant, IL on July 5, 1919, and worked at Farmers State Bank.

Halbert was an active member of Hallinglaget from the time it was organized.

Halbert was chosen 'Out-Standing Citizen Award' for Wanamingo Community in 1973 - called "Mr. Wanamingo".
