Notes for Halvor O. Loken
The death of Halvor O. Loken marks the final of another of the sturdy old pioneers of Goodhue county, who hads been a resident of Minneola township for more than 55 years. Mr. Loken passed, at his home in Zumbrota, Friday morning, March 24, 1933, after an illness of only a few days. He was born in Hallingdal, Norway, April 3, 1846. Parents were: Ole Ellingson Loken and Guri Halvorsdatter Leikvold. At the age of 23 he emigrted to America coming to Goodhue county in the year 1869. He purchased a farm in 1876. He was united in marriage to Ambjor Strand on the 21st day of June, 1878.

He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife and seven sons and daughters: Oscar and Mrs. Olga Steberg, Minneola township; Mrs. Gena Fjelstad, Thief River Falls, MN; Stephen Loken, Wanamingo; Agatha and Mina Loken, Zumbrota. A daughter, Mrs. Gurine Baker died in 1927 and a son, Alfred Loken, died in 1930. One child, Steen, died in infancy. He also leaves 19 grandchildren; one brother, Oluf of Fordville, ND and one sister, Eli Loken, of Petersburg, ND. Seven brothers and sisters are deceased.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, March 28, 1933, from the Zumbrota home at one o'clock, and from Lands church at one-thirty. Mr. Loken had been a member of Lands church for 55 years. The Lands church was filled with friends and neighbors who came to show their last honor and respect to one of the worthy pioneers of Goodhue county. The Lands ladies chorus sang two songs and the Lands male quartet sang one song. Rev. Mostrom preached the sermon in Norwegian and Rev. Rudolph Fjelstad, a son-in-law of the deceased, gave the sermon in English. Many beautiful floral tributes and memorial gifts were given in grateful memory to the departed one.

Mrs. Halvor O. Loken (Ambjor) passed away at her home in Zumbrota Friday morning, January 3, 1941, at the age of 80 years, five months and 16 days.

Ambjor Aslaksdatter Strand, daughter of Aslag Strand and wife, Agatha Gurine Hammersbon, was born in Hol, Hallingdal, Norway, July 18, 1860. She came to America in 1877. Pm June 21, 1878, she was united in marriage to Halvor O. Loken at Land's church, Zumbrota, by Rev. Johannes Ylvisaker. They made their home on the groom's farm in Minneola township until 1931, when they moved to Zumbrota. They celebrated their golden wedding in 1928. Mr. Loken preceded her in death March 24, 1933.

Mrs. Loken leaves to mourn her departure, three sons and three daughters: Oscar Loken, Minneola township; Mrs. R. M. Fjelstad, Thief River Falls, MN; Steffen Loken, Kenyon; Halbert Loken, Wanamingo; Mina Loken, Zumbrota, and Mrs. Alvin (Olga) Steberg, Minneola.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 7, 1941, from the home in Zumbrota, and at Lands church. Her pastor, Rev. Otto Mostrom, conducted the services. He was assisted by the Rev. O. A. Jacobson of Kenyon. The Lands Ladies chorus and Mrs. W. E. Giere of Minneapolis, assisted with the singing. Burial was made in the Lands church cemetery.
